Shade sail gets replaced thanks to Sunsmart grant success

Forestview Community Kindergarten would love to thank Sunsmart (Cancer Council) QLD who recently granted us a Sunsmart grant of $1013.64 for the replacement of the damaged shade sail over our slippery slide fort.

This amount is 50% of the cost with the remaining funds being sourced from the Forestview Kindy Building fund which past and present kindy families have contributed into.

We love our new shade sail and are proud of providing such a wonderful Sun Safe environment for our Kindy children and families.

A new boat

A huge thanks to the 2018 parent committee and National Poly Industries Bundaberg for their financial contribution (50% each), towards the installation of a new Poly boat into our playground.

After many years of pretend fishing and boating our old fibre glass boat had seen one too many repairs and needed replacement.  Also, a big thanks to Tim Pyle (2018 Wombat Group parent) and Mrs Leisha and her husband Jason Bartholomai who stepped in to remove the old boat and install the new one in our 2018/2019 Christmas school holidays.

We are sooooooooo excited with our new addition to the playground so that our fishing adventures can continue for many years to come.

We learnt to write our names in Japanese!

Throughout 2018 we have had a special visitor at our kindy called Mrs Yuka, she has taught us lots of wonderful and valuable things about Japan, language and Japanese culture. We have made sushi, origami stars, counted to 10 in Japanese (ichi, ni, san, shi, go, roku, nana shichi, hachi, ku, juu), said hello and goodbye and now…we can write our names in Japanese characters.

The first challenge was that we could show Mrs Yuka how to write our names in English and then have a go at copying the lines and marks of our name that had been written in Japanese.

It was very tricky but we didn’t give up and looked at each symbol closely to work out the individual parts that made it and then copied these underneath.

Many of us were very fascinated by the fact that our Japanese name didn’t have the same number of letters as our English name.

Thank you Mrs Yuka for all you have taught us this year! We have loved every minute of it.

Jeans for Genes Day

In the first week in August our kindy participated in and raised funds for Jeans for Genes Day.

Jeans for Genes is an initiative to raise much needed funds for children’s medical research.  This week we helped children develop an understanding of the importance and value of helping others in our community by donating funds to this very worthwhile cause.

Every dollar we give will help the scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute unravels cures to a range of childhood medical conditions and create a healthier future for all children.   In addition to wearing our jeans and making our donation most of us enjoyed the chance to celebrate our new understanding by having our hair decorated with coloured hairspray.

We showed the children a powerpoint presentation which explained all about ‘genes’ and what makes us unique and why some children get sick.

We had lots of fun fundraising towards this very important cause and raised over $180 from our families donations which is our kindy’s biggest total YET! Thanks to all involved and to our wonderful Forestview teachers for bringing this important cause to our kindy family.

Mrs Nicole had to get her hair sprayed too and Luca L’s mum Nat wasn’t allowed to leave without a splash of colour either (below)!

Look what popped up on the holidays…

Forestview Kindergarten’s very busy bike track just got a new gadget and it’s solar powered!

Thank you to Mrs Leisha’s husband Jason for installing our very own set of STOP, SLOW and GO lights! How cool.

Now we will be able to take turns switching the lights to red, yellow and green for essential bike track change overs.

Our kindy police officers might even give out some running red light tickets…look out!
