As soon as we started our kindy year, our veggie and flower patch has been a source of pride and joy for the children.
In Term one we had many discussions, demonstrations and practical applications of what to feed worm farms (including bringing lots of hair and eggshells from home), how we can use the ‘worm juice’ to fertilise our garden and what makes good worm farm food. This also tied into our conversations and investigations about recycling and locating the recycling symbols on our food packaging.
We love watching the bees on the flowers and even did a whole exhibition on this in Term 2 after our investigations surrounding why bees land on flowers and how they make their honey. Mrs Louise even organised for a real bee hive and honeycomb for all of the kids to taste!
Fast-forward to today where we are watching our wonderful veggie and flower patch flourish!
Now, we can’t wait to dig up our potatoes and carrots, harvest our cabbage and corn and discover whether our tomatoes have turned red yet!
There are many helpers that diligently water the patch every day and we love to watch, nurture and grow here at Forestview.
